We had the opportunity to meet a little more with the representatives of Denmark at Eurovision 2021, whom we thank for their minutes despite their busy schedule.
ORLA: Where did the idea of making music that pays homage to the retro style of the 80’s come from?
“We simply fell in love with an era, that just seems to be full of endless opportunities. Also, it was fun to bring sort of dated music back to life, as we love the jukebox, filled with this type of music, that you find at your local bar here.”
ORLA: At the moment all your singles that we know are in Danish. Have you considered venturing into English or perhaps another language?
“No.”
ORLA: How did you come up with the idea of participating in the DMGP?
“The idea to give it a go was just so alluring, so it would be silly not to try. We simply HAD to! All a sudden, we were just there, time had flown by, and we won! I remember when we barely got more votes than the runner up, and we screamed from the top of our lungs! It was a huge redemption of a very strange year.”
ORLA: Eighties rhythms and with energy. How does “Øve Os På Hinanden” represent you as artists and what do you want the public to know about you through your proposal?
“Life is like Øve os på hinanden – just give it a go and adjust as you go. In Rotterdam we’ll be performing for an audience for the very first time, so Jesper might do something spontaneous!”
“Our song ‘Øve os på hinanden’ is about the insecurities, we encounter throughout life – e.g, when you fall in love. In our song the scenario is a dancefloor, and I think we all know that feeling, when you see a certain person on the dancefloor, but you’re afraid to ask them to dance, and the small steps you take in order to do so. You need to get out there and just get better as you go and build your abilities based on your experiences.”
ORLA: Your proposal is the first entirely in Danish in more than two decades in Eurovision, this language has only won the festival once. Do you feel that this could be a barrier or how do you perceive it?
“Songs in other languages has only ever made us more curious as to know more about the song. When Portugal entered with a song in Portuguese, Jesper googled the meaning of the song and cast him his vote.”
ORLA: What is coming for Fyr og Flamme after Eurovision, what are your projects?
“We just released a new song called ‘Kæreste’. And when ESC is over, we’ll be rehearsing! We’re meeting up with our band, who we have yet to practice with. Also Jesper will be recording a movie right after the ESC, so he won’t be back in Denmark for another month after Rotterdam.“
ORLA: Eurovision is a festival that has a large number of fans in Latin America, did you know that, what do you think?
“That’s amazing!”
ORLA: Do you know any country in our continent or would you like to bring your music one day?
Laurits: “Yes! Paraguay is just a place I gotta go and experience one day!”
Jesper: “And I would really like to travel to Peru!”
ORLA: Finally, any message you want to share with ESC fans in Latin America?
“Hi everyone in Latin Amercia! We’re so happy to feel the love and support from you all!” Best wishes.
