Who is musically speaking Sennek? Tell a little about your steps in music industry.
I started my steps in the music business with the band AKS. For the past four years, I’ve played in the band with Ozark Henry, which included performing at Rock Werchter for example. At 007 in Concert for the fiftieth anniversary of James Bond (in 2012) I sang a version of Tomorrow Never Dies. And right now I am also working on my solo project.

If you could define yourself with three emotions, what would they be?
Impulsive, always in a good mood, and always in for a joke.

You are a person with many artistic influences (singing, composition, teaching, fashion). Has it ever been difficult for you to do everything you like?
For me, music is actually the combination of all my interests. That’s why I love it so much, it’s the center of all those things combined. There’s dancing to music, fashion is also important on stage, I taught music to my students… And music is used as an inspiration. So by singing and performing, I can combine everything.

You are a singing teacher at the Het Depot conservatory. How is the support of your students in this new musical adventure for you?
I did give singing lessons at The Depot, but currently I took a break from it. However, I feel support from everyone around me: friends, family, colleagues…

What advice do you give to people who want to devote their body and soul to music?
Be yourself, don’t try to act like some you are not. You have to be proud of who you are and be sincere. And only do what you believe in.

Did you have Eurovision as one of your professional goals or, it just came by accident to your life?
I was asked by our Belgian public broadcaster to represent Belgium. I was surprised that they asked me but also very flattered. Participating in Eurovision was not one of my goals but now that I am in it, it is amazing to have this chance and I am enjoying every moment of it.

How was the process for your internal election?
The artist and repertoire team of our public broadcaster choose the representative for Eurovision. They had been following me for a while and then asked me if I wanted to participate. I felt that the moment was right for me to accept.

What was the first thought that you had once you were confirmed as the representative of Belgium in Eurovision?
Well, I didn’t say yes right away when VRT asked me. It is after all an important decision to make. So I thought about it for a bit and then I said yes.

Since 2015 with Loïc, 2016 with Laura Tesoro and 2017 with Blanche, Belgium has emerged as one of the favorites of the festival. Do you feel pressure for this?
Of course! But it is healthy pressure. You have to set the bar high. We’re also not going to copy or imitate anyone. I’m bringing something completely different. And I think a bit of stress will help me perform even better.

What is story that you want to tell with your song for Eurovision?
A Matter Of Time is about being able to see beauty in things that are fleeting. The tension of watching something precious slip away and finding the beauty and that. It makes you appreciate things more and you realize that there’s also great beauty in the little things that we have.

What expectations do you have with your participation in Eurovision?
I really want to touch people with my song, and make Belgium proud of me. When I can really reach people with my performance, I will be happy.

How would you like to be reminded after Lisbon 2018?
I hope that the song and act are timeless and that through the years people will continue to enjoy the song.

Eurovision is a festival followed by hundreds of eurofans in the countries of Latin America. Did you know this?
No, but it’s great to hear that there’s so much enthusiasm for it around the world!

Have you been in some place in latin America? if not “Here we will be waiting for you”
Not yet, but my nephew lives in Colombia and I urgently need to visit him, it will be so fun to discover Latin America that way.

Finally, a message for our readers…
Hello everyone! Thank you for taking to time to read this interview and for wanting to get to know me. I hope you will love A Matter Of Time as much as I do – and maybe we’ll meet in Lisbon!
