OgaeRoWlatino.com spoke with one of the proposals of the Czech pre-selection for Eurovision 2019, Jára Vymer has a connection with Latin America that few could think, this is what he told us:

ORLA: It’s a pleasure to have you with us and allow us through this interview to get to know you more closely, let’s begin:

ORLA: Who is Jára for the world of music? How did you start?
JV: I’m 19 years old and “On My Knees” is the first song I’ve published. Well, I was completely unknown. I was 15 years old when I wrote their first song and it was a completely different style. I did it for my music classes at school as part of harmony lessons. Now I dedicate myself to Soul, Rhythm and Blues and Rock.

ORLA: What emotions define you as a musician and as a person?
JV: I try to live my whole life to full because I feel all the emotions, positive and negative and I write about of the two.

ORLA: According to your personal information on Instagram, you has its roots in Costa Rica and Peru, how is that you are linked to these Latin countries?
JV: My mom is Peruvian and my dad is Czech. They met in Costa Rica, there they got married and I was born in Nicoya in Guanacaste (Costa Rica).

When I was a year old, we moved to the Czech Republic. I have returned once to Costa Rica more than two years ago and once visited my family in Peru when I was little one.

ORLA: What led you to present your proposal in the Czech pre-selection for Eurovision?
JV: My music producer. The song was not ready and I was not happy with the demo, but he said I should try, don’t have anything to lose, now I’m here.

ORLA: Was Eurovision always a goal for you or did it suddenly happen on the road?
JV: Well, as I have already written, that was not my plan, it happened more by chance.

ORLA: The song you are participating in is called “On My Knees”, what story is behind it and what is the message of the song?
JV: It’s a soul ballad with gospel origins, at the beginning it was a romantic song, but days later with everything that was happening in my life, it became a song about becoming an adult looking for its own identity and relationships with the family. That’s what my official video tells about the story of a child who runs from his family, because his parents are divorcing. The message of the video is that despite the difficulties we only have one family and they love us. The message of the song is to seek freedom and fair, equal relationships.

ORLA: The projection of Eurovision in Latin America is huge, and many of us would like to have the opportunity to be able to witness some of the editions at some point; Did you know how important this overproduction is for thousands of us? What do you think about it?
JV: I did not know that the community in Latin American countries was so big and it surprised me a lot, but I’m happy, that I can represent you too.

ORLA: Knowing the popularity of Eurovision among Hispanics, would you like to include South and Central America in your future musical projects?
JV: It depends, if I’m going to have a lot of fans in your countries. Music is the important thing and if many Hispanic people are going to like my music, I will happily do concerts there.

ORLA: What about your Spanish language? Could we listen to some of your songs in Spanish?
JV: My Spanish is not very good, everything I’m writing to you I prepared it before so, there’s no many mistakes. I do not have quite diverse vocabulary to make good songs in Spanish, but nobody knows what the future brings 🙂

ORLA: What’s next in your career?
JV: I’m going to publish more singles and then an album, but I want to take my time, not do it in a hurry and do it in the best quality I possibly can! I still need time to mature as a singer and I would like to learn how to play an instrument well.

ORLA: Jára, it was a pleasure to talk with you and we thank you once again for your kindness and for sharing a time with the Latin eurofans. send a greeting to everyone who will read from the other side of the floor.
JV: Thank you very much for your questions! It makes me very happy, that the Latino people have an interest in me.
